This stamp was created in commemoration of the The West African Football Competition in 1959, initiated by Ghana's first president Kwame Nkrumah to build unity among West African states. The stamp features the West African Region which is accurate as of !959, bearing the old names such as Fernando Póo (now Equatorial Guinea), French Sudan (now Mali), Dahomey (now Benin), Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso) and Portuguese Guinea (now Guinea Bissau).
